Botanical Gardens Fleet Steps - Mrs Macquaries Point Sydney NSW 2000 Australia

trendspotter

Most people know the area for the bats that hand precariously from the magnificent trees that define Sydney Botanical Gardens that’s also home to the St. George Open Air Cinema that runs from mid-January thru mid-February and one of the highlights of the Sydney summer. Every year the cinema circuit kicks-off with a harborside showing premiere of a Hollywood blockbuster that manages city-wide headlines and celebrity red carpet followed by more casual nightly first-run movies that usually includes a few showing of the yearly Oscar frontrunners. The on-site Chandon Bar and Good Living Restaurant sponsored by The Sydney Morning Herald provide picnic or sit-down meals like bbq leg of lamb, beer-battered fish and chips or Wagyu burger with bacon.

Tips

Try to book tickets at least a month in advance, especially for the opening night, as many evenings are sold-out and ticket scalpers at the event are not as commonplace as in the US or Europe.

Last Word

Come prepared, Sydney evenings even in summer can include a little wind and some chilly exceptions. Bring a blanket or cover-up to ensure comfort.
